Shea nut is the seed of the shea fruit harvested from shea trees. Shea tree is an indigenous tree of West Africa that starts to bear fruit at 15 – 20 years old. Shea fruits fall automatically from the tree when they ripe. The fruits are collected and the flesh eaten or removed by fermentation. The nuts with the husk are then boiled and dried for 5-7 days. The nuts are then dehusked to obtain the final nut which is the main source of Shea butter. After this process, the shea nut can be stored for a long period of time without any defect.
